Planning Your Web Site

  • Step One - Determine the goals and purposes for you web site.   Providing useful information is a primary function for most sites.   Product service information, catalogs, menu's for restaurants, location information (maps), business hours, contact information, training information, calendars for events, news, resumes, links, etc. are just some of the items that could be featured in your site.
Interactivity is an important function of a web site. You can use forms and email on your site to allow your visitors to request additional information, collect sales leads, make suggestions, voice a complaint, submit information, and much more.
On-line Sales are becoming an important feature of many businesses.   On-line sales require that you  have a credit card merchant account that allows e-commerce. You will also need to purchase additional services and or software.   You can also have printable order forms, and toll free numbers to assist you with sales from the internet.

  • Step Two - Put together the information from you goals and purposes.  Organize your information. If you have this information on your computer save it as a text file which your web designer will be able to use without re-typing or converting.  Get your images together, such as: photos, brochures, logos, etc. Your web designer should be able to scan your images if necessary and clean up your images and logos for your web site.

  • Step Three - Determine if you want to get your own domain.   This simply means that you will need to register a name with internic.net to be used as your address on the world wide web (www.yourname.com).  There are a limited number of names available, but you can do a  search at internic to determine if your name is available.  Short and easy to remember names are best, as well as descriptive names.  Once you have determined your domain name your Web Professional (Pelican Web Services) will register it for you.

  • Step Four - Choose a Web Designer that you believe can create a site that will meet your expectations, such as Pelican Web Services.  We always strive to not only meet your expectations, but go beyond and create a site that  will make your organization or business shine.

  • Step Five - Choose a Web Company to host and maintain your site.  You will need someone you can trust and depend upon.  Pelican Web Services will keep your site running smoothly with quick updates when you need them.   Contact Us Today!
